#### SIMPOW - DSL Modelling Course

Course Duration: The duration of the basic course is 3 days.

Course Goal: The goal of this course is to teach students about the different parts of Simpow and give them knowledge to work independently with Simpow.

Student Profile: The student will be any personnel working with power system studies.

Prerequisites and Recommendations
The student should have knowledge of power systems prior to attending this course. No experience of Simpow is needed.

Description
This course will teach the four basic functions of Simpow: power-flow computations, dynamic simulations, fault computations, and linear analysis. The course also covers how to use a graphical tool for development of regulator and protection models. It is shown how to analyse the small-signal stability of a power system by studying its eigenvalues. It will be shown how eigenvalues are influenced by machine parameters. A harmonic studies tool with several harmonic sources is shown. Each section of the courses includes exercises allowing students to refine their skills.

Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Make power-flow computations and create single line diagrams.
• Make dynamic simulations and create diagrams as a function of time or a variable.
• Perform fault computations, e.g. study of a short-circuit according to the classical method or the standard IEC909.
• Make a model of a regulator or a protection for use in dynamic simulations.
• Calculate eigenvalues and study how they are manipulated by regulator parameters.
• Understand the relation between linear analysis and time-domain simulations.
• Understand model analysis.
• Calculate total harmonic distortion (THD) caused by several harmonic sources.
